Storytelling Through a One-Page Website

We’ve all heard about the rise of interactive and visual storytelling. It started with the global pandemic that has driven tremendous growth of digital transformation and reshaped the way brands tell stories. Many businesses saw this great opportunity and explored new ways to communicate with their customers.

With the ever-changing trends in website development and design, brands are starting to discover the power of a storytelling website, which has grown in popularity.

A storytelling website is often a one-page or single-page website. As it goes without saying, a one-page website is a website that contains different content sections on a single page. This format is often used for a resume or portfolio page, a lead generation campaign landing page, or an event website.

One of Ballistic Arts’ most recent website projects for Christopher Tyler Nickel is a perfect example of using storytelling to promote an event on a one-page website.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which is based on the “Captain Nemo” novel by Jules Verne, is one of Christopher’s most important pieces of work. Our web development team worked together to meet Christopher’s expectations with the use of his content, and built a one-page website that would guide the users through certain aspects of the musical.

Ideally, a one-page website will showcase a range of highly visual and interactive elements, such as full-screen photography and galleries, videos, text and narratives, and animated elements. With Christopher’s website, beautiful illustrations as well as the musical storyline and songs, are among the interactive elements that were created to immerse the audience.

A well-designed, engaging storytelling website is essential to grab the audience’s attention through a narrative about a featured product, company, or event. The unique format of a storytelling one-page website allows brands to create a more intentional flow of their content and to guide people through the story naturally.

Is a one-page website right for you?

A one-page website is a great option if you’re trying to present one main idea or story to your audience, or when you want to encourage them to take a very specific action — and we’ve talked about certain types of websites that would benefit from this format.

Easy navigation for the users and a better mobile experience are some other advantages that come with using a one-page website. Despite the simplicity that it offers to the users, it may not be for everyone and definitely not for every business.

There are a few drawbacks to using a one-page or a single-page website, especially from an SEO perspective.

  • Keyword Targeting

With a single-page website, you will definitely be limited to how many keywords you can target. It can be challenging to incorporate all of the keywords you wish to include on a singular page while trying to do so is also not recommended.

  • SEO Best Practices

When working with a single-page site, certain SEO strategies and best practices won’t be available, such as content siloing and internal linking. It may limit your ability to maximize the full potential of SEO and eventually increase your organic search visibility.
