3 Website Trends For 2017

New ideas for website designs are emerging everyday. Keep your eyes open for the following website trends and innovations in 2017.

1. Bold Typography & Simple Messaging

A recent trend in website design is the use of eyecatching typography and succinct messaging. When paired with bold type, short, catchy, and easy to understand sentences are the most effective when it comes to conveying your marketing message to your audience.

One or two word statements can be just as informative as 3 paragraphs of sales copy, and your users will generally be more inclined to read it all. Remember, your website isn’t wikipedia, so don’t try to make it contain all of the world’s knowledge. Use clear and actionable copy, and make sure that your users know why they are on your site, and what they should click on next.

2. Scalable Graphics

Mobile responsive websites should be a default by now, but have you heard of responsive graphics? SVG’s, or Scalable Vector Graphics, bring lossless image scaling to the web by defining an image in terms of formulas. (Not pixels!)

Imagine embedding a vector image on a web page, scaling that page to any size, and never losing image quality. SVG’s offer a way to do full resolution graphical elements without worrying about screen sizes, your user’s page zoom levels, or what resolution your user’s device has. Now that all modern browsers support SVG renderings, they create an opportunity for some amazing animations and interactivity.

3. Page Speed Optimization

You know that Google prefers mobile-friendly websites, but did you know that Google also prefers fast websites? Having a lightning-fast site will help you rank higher in search results, raise your conversion rates, and build trust with prospective customers.

But how do you get a blazing fast website? There are a number of ways. You can reduce your server’s response time, compress your code, use the right libraries, optimize your images, use a content distribution network, and minimize your website’s HTTP requests. Most of these changes are pretty technical, but you can expect that in the coming year you’ll hear more about them in the service of page speed.
