Modernizing the McNicholas & McNicholas Website with a Professional UI/UX Refresh
About McNicholas & McNicholas
McNicholas & McNicholas, LLP is a Los Angeles–based law firm with over 30 years of experience representing people harmed by negligence or misconduct. Founded by a family of trial lawyers across three generations, the firm has built a strong reputation for taking on complex, high-stakes cases and winning billions in settlements for clients. With experience in personal injury, employment law, class actions, and consumer protection, McNicholas & McNicholas is known for standing up for clients and working hard to protect their futures.
The Problem
The team at McNicholas & McNicholas was planning a broader brand refresh. However, during the initial stages, it became clear that their existing website would not support the organization’s new direction.
The original site suffered from several usability and clarity issues that impacted both user experience and brand perception, including:
- Content that was difficult to read and digest
- Navigation challenges that made it hard for users to find key information
- An overall structure and visual style that no longer aligned with the firm’s evolving image
If these issues weren’t addressed, the website could undermine the firm’s credibility and diminish the impact of its refreshed brand.
The Solution
Ballistic Arts offered UI/UX Design
To ensure the redesign aligned with the firm’s goals, the Ballistic Arts web team started with collaborative discovery sessions. By speaking directly with key stakeholders and trusted advisors, we were able to identify:
- Which sections were critical to retain
- Where content needed refinement or simplification
- What could be removed to improve clarity and focus
This groundwork allowed us to define a clear direction and ensure the design would support both the firm’s legacy and its future positioning.
We came back to them with two distinct design concepts: one rooted in a more traditional legal aesthetic and another leaning toward a more modern approach. Reviewing both options with these same stakeholders helped clarify that the ideal solution lived in the middle.
From there, we created high-fidelity Figma prototypes so that all involved stakeholders could see the full site experience early in the process. This made it easy for the McNicholas & McNicholas team to give clear, practical feedback on layout, copy, and visuals, and to review design details and micro-interactions before moving forward.
This approach streamlined collaboration, reduced friction during revisions, and kept the project moving efficiently.

Key Success Factors

High-Fidelity Prototypes for Efficient Collaboration
Using detailed Figma prototypes allowed all stakeholders to review layouts, copy placement, assets, and interactions before development. This significantly reduced friction during revisions, helping align feedback early in the process.

Aligning Design With a Brand Refresh
Our goal was to make sure the new website matched the firm’s evolving brand. By improving readability, structure, and visuals, we created a clearer, more confident online presence that truly reflects their credibility and experience.

Designs Built for Seamless Handoff
Because development was handled internally, the UI/UX system was designed with implementation in mind. Clear component usage, consistent styling, and thoughtful interaction design enabled the McNicholas & McNicholas IT team to recreate the site accurately and efficiently.
The Results
The final deliverables included detailed Figma layouts and interactive prototypes that the client’s IT team could implement with confidence.
The designs were successfully recreated with precision, including:
- Layout and page structure
- Fonts, colours, and visual components
- Asset selection and subtle micro-interactions

Together, these elements delivered a refreshed, modern, and practical website experience that aligned with McNicholas & McNicholas’ updated brand while preserving the authority and trust expected of a leading injury law firm.
