Rebuilding the Digital Presence of BC’s Premier Indigenous-Led Resource Conference

The Indigenous Resource Opportunities Conference is one of the most distinctive gatherings in British Columbia’s resource sector. Indigenous-led and purpose-built for advancing Indigenous economic participation, IROC brings First Nations leadership, government representatives, resource developers, and industry partners together for three days of keynotes, panel discussions, and relationship-building. In its tenth year, IROC 2026 carried significant momentum, and the website needed to carry it too.

The Problem

C3 Alliance came to us at a meaningful moment: IROC’s tenth year, with a fresh rebrand in hand and a clear ambition to attract higher-level participants. The conference had earned its reputation over a decade of substantive, Indigenous-led programming, but the existing site wasn’t reflecting that. It needed a digital presence that could speak to First Nations leadership, senior government officials, and resource industry executives with the same credibility and intentionality the event brings in person.

The challenge was compounded by the nature of the conference itself. Three days of keynotes, panel discussions, and relationship-building sessions generates a significant amount of content to organize and present, and participants need to be able to navigate it clearly whether they’re deciding to register, planning their schedule, or following the program on the day.

The Solution

Ballistic Arts offered Website Design & Development

We designed and developed a site built around two priorities that had to work together: leading with IROC’s refreshed brand in a way that felt respectful, modern, and visually confident, and ensuring that a dense information environment was well-organized so it remained accessible and easy to navigate for every type of visitor.

The design was driven by C3’s new branding. The site needed to feel like it belonged to IROC, reflecting the significance of the event and the communities it serves, while staying clean and functional enough to move a user from arrival to registration without friction.

On the backend, we built the site on WordPress, configured for C3’s content workflow. IROC runs on an active schedule of announcements, speaker additions, and program updates in the lead-up to and during the event. The team needed to manage all of that independently, and they can.

Key Success Factors

Culturally Grounded Visual Design

A conference advancing Indigenous economic participation requires a visual identity applied with care. The refreshed branding led every design decision, ensuring the site felt consistent with the values and significance of the event rather than generic.

Content Architecture for a Multi-Day Program

Three days of keynotes, panels, and sessions, alongside speaker profiles, registration, sponsor information, and news, all needed clear structure. We organized the site so each content type had a purposeful home and users could move through it intuitively.

A CMS the Team Can Own

C3 manages an active content cycle around IROC. WordPress gave them a platform that’s stable, secure, and straightforward to use, so the team could keep the site current through the full event cycle without outside support.

The Results

The final site brought IROC’s rebrand to life with consistency and visual confidence, giving the conference the digital presence its ten-year track record deserved. Participants and prospective attendees arrive at a site that communicates the seriousness and purpose of the event clearly, with a program that’s easy to follow and a registration flow that doesn’t get in the way.

The C3 team left with a platform they could run themselves from day one. Speaker announcements, program updates, news posts, and registration changes are all manageable without relying on outside development support, which matters for an organization running a high-profile conference on an active content calendar.

Why It Works

Every decision in this project traces back to a specific client need. Here’s how the two connect.

Client Need
A rebranded, Indigenous-led conference needed its new identity applied with care and consistency across its primary public-facing channel.
What We Did
We opened the project with a thorough discovery session focused on C3’s communication goals, brand direction, and the values IROC represents, then let those inputs drive every visual and structural choice throughout.
Client Need
The site needed to handle three days of keynotes, panels, and sessions alongside speaker profiles, registration, sponsorship, and news, without becoming overwhelming to navigate.
What We Did
We built and validated a full-site, high-fidelity prototype before any development began, working through the information hierarchy with C3 until every content type had a clear, logical home.
Client Need
Attendees needed to register for the event and follow the program clearly, across devices, without friction.
What We Did
Registration and the program schedule were treated as the two primary user journeys from the outset, with direct calls to action, accessible design, and a page structure that guides users naturally toward both.
Client Need
The C3 team needed to manage and update the site independently through a high-activity event cycle, without needing outside development support for routine changes.
What We Did
We built on WordPress and configured it specifically for C3’s workflow, then trained the team so they could take full ownership of content from launch day forward.
